Weekly Image of Life: Dreams & Freedom

Living in a communist country I sometimes forget that we have so many freedoms in the West. For one the internet is blocked and without special accommodations Facebook, YouTube and blogs are inaccessible. The media monitors what is seen or known. I once said ” we don’t live in Kansas anymore Toto” when an event reminded me of the lack of freedoms or highlighted the frustrations that sometimes arise. Things are different, not bad, just not the same. In day-to-day life I don’t notice these subtle changes or restrictions. Additionally as an expat I am pretty lucky and live freely. Do I miss all these little freedoms? Obviously not. Now I would miss not being able to blog, but most other things I hardly notice. I guess I also know at some point I will be home, so with patience I can have those things again, but then the adventure will be lost.

So what are my dreams or freedoms? The one thing on my mind right now is the freedom of time… no watch, schedule or expectations to meet deadlines and rush from here to there and get this done as the to do list grows longer. I can sleep late, stay up later and just hang out. Things get done when they get done. No preplanning and being totally free to be spontaneous. I am enjoying catching up with people and blog, reading or just watching TV. During the school year I would have an eye on the clock and not totally relax knowing there is so much to do. This for me, and many other teachers is the dream of summer holidays and freedom to do nothing. Teachers work hard and very long hours for 10 months of the year. Many people underestimate what a teacher does… they see the time off and think it is an easy job. That is not my intention here and I don’t want to spark a debate, so back to the point… Now the question is how do I show an image of summer dreams, quiet, relaxation and freedom to do what I want all day without scheduling….?

Off into the Sunset

How about this shot? Off into the sunset and a winding road that can lead to endless possibilities. What do you think?

Diana, You deserve a restful summer holiday. Sleep late, eat when you feel like eating, catch up on all of the books you didn’t have time to read. Just relax and be!

    • Looking forward to reading the Hunger Games. Hear it is really good and want to read it before I see the movie. Have you read it?

No, I haven’t read The Hunger Games. I’m reading the trilogy…Fifty Shades of Gray. Not sure what to think about this book…very unusual, probably considered soft porn by many. It has made me laugh, which some people might find unusual. I have considered throwing it in the garbage, but continue to read. The characters…and there are only two of any importance, are well depicted. It is a very thought provoking book.

  2. I think it’s the best idea there is. I would like to just wake up, off to greet the sunrise, no worries, no time schedules, no expectations, just a series of surprises and endless possibilities. I agree, “time” is one freedom we all want and hope but seems to take for granted until it’s too late. I don’t wish to realize one day that I have to beg for more time because I didn’t venture into the things I always longed to do. You reflection on the theme is so “real and pure.” It is something we all ask ourselves each day but never got the chance to answer. Today is that day to realize time is of priceless value. Today is that day to claim that freedom and use it to its best potential. Your words echoed so true, “The one thing on my mind right now is the freedom of time… no watch, schedule or expectations to meet deadlines and rush from here to there and get this done as the to do list grows longer. I can sleep late, stay up later and just hang out. Things get done when they get done.” Would I want this today and everyday? Absolutely! Thank you for sharing a post that mirrors our hope each day. Have an inspiring day my friend.

    • Thank you for understanding and expressing my thoughts even more clearly than I.
Our jobs and life get so busy and overtake us… I long for enjoying each day to the fullest. I have lost a work friend this year and a beloved pet and realized we don’t get extra time, so enjoy what you are given while you can. Be happy, enjoy what you do, love and forgive… Life is too short.
Thanks again for the comment and inspiring words.

I think as we get older we realize just how precious each day really is, how fleeting each moment is , and that it is important to enjoy and treasure each new day that truly is a great gift. I have lost siblings, dear friends, some weeks more than one. That, more than anything , makes me grateful that I wake up to a new day with endless possibilities.
