Buds & Blossoms

“She turned to the sunlight
    And shook her yellow head,
And whispered to her neighbor:
    “Winter is dead.”

A.A. Milne, When We Were Very Young

We have had 3 seasons in a fortnight. Just 2 weeks ago we had temps 25-29c; unseasonable. We went to more spring like temps around 16-18c until the temperatures plunged to around 5c. Brrr feels like winter again. The damp chill settled back in and the winds picked up to force you to dig to the back of the closet again and find the warm wooly sweaters that I thought I could pack away until next year.

Magnolia Blossoms

Magnolia Blossoms

The blossoms had been out in full force, but the cold temperatures have made some of them fall, wilt or turn brown. The promise of spring has been forgotten for now, but some hardy blossoms have held on. Hopefully soon the chill will move on and spring will be back. One thing about spring it always brings new life and hope of better things to come.

What is the weather been like in your neighbourhood?

Hi Diana, Lovely pics. No buds or blossoms here . It has been 5-6*C below normal with very little sun until yesterday. The sun had lots of warmth so I know that spring will soon come along. It would be lovely to have a warm , sunny Easter weekend, but it’s not looking very promising! Guess the Groundhog made a mistake this year!

  2. Things around here have been pretty much like yours. I think the days of packing away winter clothes are over. Myou just can trust Mother Nature any more. She is very fickle!

    • True enough. In Shanghai when temperatures change they usually stay… (or they are more consistent) not the big fluctuations like at home. This year has been different. Temeperatures near zero and lots of rain had made it a chilly start to spring and dip back into winter.
Thanks for stopping by and for the comment. 🙂

  3. I love the blossoms but more your crinkled paper !! (and background – bravo! ) Really love it

    • crinkled paper? I think I am missing something. The blossoms were all taken outside… no paper.
Thanks for the kind comments. I was happy how the photos turned out.

My crocus’ are peeking out and some are flowering. The tree in my back yard has big fat buds on it. I’ve seen robins and heard all the birdies singing happily. Spring is more than the weather. Look for the joy of spring and you’ll find it. ❤
