Game on! Canada vs. USA street hockey breaks out in Sochi

Less than a hundred feet separate the official Canadian and American Olympic Houses in Sochi. So far, the two nations have co-existed peacefully in their new Olympic neighbourhood. But with both headed into the Women’s Gold Medal game tomorrow night, and the men on a possible collision course in the semi-finals on Friday, a dustup was inevitable. It finally came in the form of a street hockey game this morning inside the Olympic Park, played to an overtime four-all tie.

This game was the real deal. NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman dropped the ceremonial puck between Canadian Olympic Figure Skater Patrick Chan and an American cyborg. Pretty sure that’s cheating.

    • I missed a lot of the media coverage especially the TV hilights. We didn’t get a lot here. Some restaurants had it playing, but with no sound and text was in Chinese. I am a NOT a sports fan, but I love the Winter Olympics and cheering on home. To get the chance to see the game live with fellow Canadians and co-workers was even more exciting since it was the only event we saw and it happened to be the gold medal game.
      I had my students excited too as we checked the standings and some of them from other countries it made it more fun to compare. It became an easy math lesson as we added how many and subtracted the differences from the day before. The kids were having fun and not even knowing they were learning math 😉
