Summer: Tourist in Your Town

It has been about 1 year since I first posted the Tourist in Your Own Town series. I started it as a random challenge whenever something struck my fancy. A fellow blogger suggested I do it at a regular interval to increase results and participants. It then became a monthly challenge. After a few more challenges with only a few participants I considered stopping the challenges. After lots of comments and encouragement from the blogging world to keep going I decided to give it more time, but still I have had less than positive results. Good intentions are appreciated, but it makes me think my idea is just not something that interests enough readers.

The first few challenges had a few regular followers join in and I made a few new friends a long the way with new bloggers stopping by. Since those first months fewer and fewer people have joined and I am lucky to have had one or two bloggers join in. July was the worst results with no one until just recently Chava61 found my blog and did a great post.

With mixed feelings I have decided to retire the monthly challenge. A challenge needs work, time and leg work getting out there to tempt you all with great ideas and dropping by to nudge, hint and persuade you to participate. With a busy work schedule where I work 10-14 hours a day and 4-8 hours on weekends I cannot devote the time to a blog and photo challenge that I would like. So August will be the final challenge. For the final prompt I would like to tempt you with images of summer. Maybe it was a picnic in the park, trip to the cottage, a beautiful sunset or garden. No matter show something summery where you live. Link back here and use Tourist in Your Town in the title and as a tag. Β  Rainbow20140705_080227

Fun at the pool

Fun at the pool

Funny that I wrote this before last week’s “summer lovin” theme set by word press, but since I am doing a scheduled post because I will be travelling half-way round the world on the usual posting date. Why not send us a link to that post? Thanks to all my followers and participants over the past year. Stay tuned… not for more challenges, but more adventures in Shanghai and around Asia as we enter our final year. Β  Sunset20140705_085609

  1. Surprising to me that you had so few participants in what seems like such a good idea. Somehow I missed this idea…. So looking forward to your upcoming posts from Asia. Safe travels.

    • Thanks so much for your kind words. I thought it was an easy idea, but just didn’t get enough participants or my time to keep going. It was becoming a stress, not fun, so best to let it go. Who knows maybe one day I will try it again.

  2. Sorry that it didn’t take flight.

  3. I love the contrast in your photos for this post. The first…cool and green then the last hot and orange. I love them both!!

    • At first home was hot and sunny and the last days cool and rainy. Maybe I should have reversed the order ? πŸ˜‰ thanks for your compliments.

  4. Gorgeous sunset capture! Summer rain is refreshing πŸ™‚

  5. Thanks for mentioning me in your post. I am relatively new to blogging challenges but I am happy to have managed to try out yours before they ended. Here is my contribution to your current challenge:

    • Thanks so much for joining in again. I appreciate the effort and participation. No worries about the mention. Sorry you found me just as I am closing up ‘shop’. Who knows maybe I’ll do a random post here and there and I’d love you to join in πŸ™‚

  6. I understand the time problem, life is a continuous struggle to keep up to date isn’t it?

    • Yes sure is… seems I live for holidays with this job. It isn’t because I don’t love what I do, but the workload that can feel smothering. I use a lot of the holidays to catch up and so little time to relax 😦

  7. I think we all can relate to the time problem?! I guess that was the reason I didn’t participate in all of them… But I loved the challenge while it lasted!

    • Thanks πŸ™‚ Well who knows maybe it will be a random challenge ??? Or maybe it will return when I have a less intense job where I have little free time.

  8. I know what you mean about devoting time. It’s so difficult sometimes. Lately, most times. Your photos are beautiful. The last shot made me smile. On a night when I’m weary and worn, that’s quite a feat! πŸ™‚

Well, I must say I enjoyed your ‘tourist in your town’ posts and at some point I thought I could participate in the challenge. But time is an issue, I just can’t keep up with any challenges at this point. I’m still looking forward though to reading about your adventures. Happy Summer:-)

    • Thanks for that. Seems lots of people enjoyed the posts, just no time to join in. Hmm got me thinking maybe it can return one day when I have more time to devote to it. I will continue to blog… just had an extended layover in Dubai and off to the Great Wall Tuesday, so lots to share!

  10. Hey CTB, sorry I missed this one. Hope your travels went well and that you’re back safe and sound. I thought running a challenge would be a massive amount of work and time. Sorry to see you end it but I watched it with interest and think you got some great responses. Anyway, my summer post was here

  12. Here’s a summer post from me: Sorry to here it didn’t take off. I think monthly challenges are harder than weekly – personally, I forget about them more easily, or put it to the back of my mind because I have a whole month! But of course they need even more admin time. I’ll be back to keep up with your other posts.

    • Thanks Debbie for participating. You have a good point that a monthly challenge is harder than a weekly one. Maybe one day I can bring it back and do a weekly challenge.
Thanks for your kind words and visits πŸ™‚
